4. General Interest Not-For-Credit/Auditing
If you would like to take the course(s) not for credit you have the option to audit the course(s). When a participant decides to audit a HGI course we expect that the individual will fully participate in the class (e.g., completing the required readings, assignments and contributing to classroom discussions and group work).
Haida Gwaii Institute courses aim to be interactive and experiential rather than heavily lecture based. HGI strives to create a safe space to foster connection and build a community of learners, and student participation is an important element for this. Every student is expected to contribute and be prepared to meaningfully discuss content and materials.
You can read more about the UBC policy on auditing courses here: https://students.ubc.ca/enrolment/courses/auditing-courses, as Haida Gwaii Institute’s policies align with UBC’s policies.
Individuals who are considering auditing a course are encouraged to reach out to HGI (hg.institute@ubc.ca) to discuss expectations and requirements.
